An unusual specimen of richly coloured purple, well-formed Quartz Amethyst crystals measuring to 2.5 cm, and partly covered by light metallic yellow druses of crystalline Marcasite preferentially coating towards one side of the Amethyst crystals. From the Boldut mine in Romania, the Amethyst crystals are semi-transparent grading to translucent towards their bases. Most of these well terminated crystals are draped with golden-tinted gunmetal Marcasite druses, forming caps over the Amethyst, like a judge's wig in texture and appearance. This is a beautiful and most unusual cabinet specimen from the Boldut mine, one which will make you look twice and then ponder for some time!
