A terrific small group of Epidote crystals which grade from dark bottle green at their base to light pistachio-green towards their chisel-like terminations. The largest crystal measures 3.3 cm and the specimen is mounted on an acrylic base. From the Molybdenite skarn deposit at Kimmeria in the Xánthi Prefecture, Thraki Department of north-eastern Greece. Skarn deposits are formed through contact metamorphism when a intrusive body encounters a carbonate deposit. The granulated terminations form as individual Epidote crystals become slighted displaced for one another giving the specimen a unique and aesthetic quality.
