SPHALERITE on QUARTZ

Superb, gemmy to translucent burnt toffee orange-brown Sphalerite crystals are clustered over stubby, sharp pyramidal crystals of white Quartz which cap a massive milky Quartz matrix. This excellent small cabinet specimen is from Banská Štiavnica (Schemnitz) in the Banská Bystrica Region of Slovakia, a deposit of precious and base metals hosted in an epithermal vein-like ore body. The multi-faced Sphalerite crystals measure to 8 mm and the majority are this size. This is a terrific example of well crystallised Sphalerite from Banská Štiavnica.\n
