Tucson, Arizona, USAThe Samson mine, 0.5 km north-west of St. Andreasberg, in Lower Saxony, Germany, was a famous silver mine which eventually ceased operations in 1910. Amongst the many fine-crystallised mineral species it has produced, Fluorapophyllite-(K) is a recognised classic, forming rose-pink tinged equant crystals. This small miniature is coated in such, covering a layered dark grey and black slaty matrix. The specimen is labelled Apophyllite, the more colloquial old name for Fluorapophyllite-(K) and forms semi-transparent colourless to delicate rose-pink crystals up to 1.4 cm long and all with a brilliant glassy lustre. A great miniature example of Apophyllite from the famous Samson mine in Lower Saxony.
