Tucson, Arizona, USABlackdene mine is adjacent to the small village of Ireshopeburn by the River Wear, from which the name Weardale is derived. This lead and fluorspar mine is amongst the oldest in County Durham, dating to at least the early 15th century (early 1400's). Blackdene is known for its large purple Fluorite cubes, but this specimen is at a much more elegant and delicate level, formed from densely packed titled cubic crystals of beautiful light lavender heavily dusted with micro-drusy snow-white Quartz. The translucent cubes measure to 2.2 cm on edge and cover the top surface of a mixed snow-white and peppermint-green massive Fluorite matrix. Blackdene Fluorite does not exhibit daylight fluorescence, but under LWUV emits an ethereal, yet prominent lavender-lilac. A lovey cabinet specimen of Fluorite, frosted in sucrosic Quartz from the historic Blackdene mine.
