A rare specimen of crystallised Acanthite from M?d?nec in the 'st' nad Labem Region of the Czech Republic. This was a copper mining district and worked a copper skarn deposit. A skarn occurs where an igneous intrusion contacts a carbonate sequence and hence causes metamorphic alteration adjacent to the contact. A whole suite of metallic elements is present in this skarn, one of which is silver. Acanthite is the low temperature form of silver sulphide and in this specimen forms crude blocky and somewhat rounded lead-grey crystals to about 7 mm across. These are associated with smaller, silver-grey druses of possible granular Native Silver or Silver-rich Acanthite. An interesting and rarely seen species from this old locality.
