Tucson, Arizona, USAThe Sinerechenskoe skarn occurrence in Primorsky Krai, Russia, lies towards the eastern most extremity of Russia, only some 150 km from the coast looking out across to Japan. Andradite-rich skarn deposits form by the juxtaposition calcium-rich igneous intrusions contacting carbonate rich country rock (e.g. limestone). This particular skarn is famous for its fabulous Andradite Garnet specimens and this most handsome small cabinet specimen is a first class example. The Andradite forms beautifully sharp and well defined crystals to 1.6 cm across as an intergrown dome. All crystals are highly lustrous, appear blackish-green-brown and where transmitted light can penetrate the crystal's thinner edges, translucent clove brown zones become visible.
