This is a beautiful specimen of particularly well-formed Pyrite crystals from the famous and remote Huanzala mine in the Huánuco Department of Peru, from where the world's finest large and complex crystal aggregates came. Bright metallic pale golden striated cubic crystals of Pyrite measuring to 2.2 cm on edge form a fine aesthetic small cabinet-sized cluster covering a matrix of mixed granular and crystalline Pyrite. The striated faces vary in amplitude from shallow to much deeper troughs, in some cases tending to form slightly curved surfaces to the cubes. In some respects they look like machined grooves, but all are entirely natural - wonders of the natural world. We often consider Pyrite to be such a common mineral, but when it forms a specimen such as this, it becomes elevated in stature and is able to hold its own against any other species. One could just sit and gaze at its complex form for hours. A delightful display of Pyrite from the Huanzala mine.
