A fine deep olive-green crystal of Epidote displays in a prominent position on the specimen, from Prince of Wales Island, off Alaska, USA. The main prismatic lustrous Epidote crystal measures 4.7 cm tall, is double terminated and shows areas of lighter lime-green flecks and patches. The main Epidote crystal rises vertically from a Quartz matrix, itself covered with several tapering Quartz crystals to 1.5 cm long and is pervaded with many more Epidote crystals of the same colour. The specimen is mounted on a square clear acrylic base. An outstanding and beautiful group of Epidote crystals from this classic island locality.

Epidote from Prince of Wales Island, Alaska, USA
Prince of Wales Island epidote is one of the great American mineral classics: dark, lustrous, sharply terminated, and unmistakably Alaskan in character. The best-known material comes from Green Monster Mountain, with related skarn occurrences in the Copper Mountain–Jumbo district. Collectors prize these specimens for their stout, blocky monoclinic crystals, deep bottle-green to nearly black color, bright vitreous luster, and the striking contrast of white to clear quartz or, more rarely, calcite.
