Colloquially known as Larkin's Quarry, but more accurately and less evocatively called the Granite Quarry, this remained a totally unknown mineral locality until 2016 when blasting opened up magnificently mineralised veins of remarkable Fluorite, propelling this locality near to Galway in County Galway, Ireland to an instant classic! This quarry is usually referred to as Shannapheasteen to distinguish it from Larkin's Quarry, although it is owned and operated by the same Larkin brothers. This exceptionally fine large cabinet specimen is a mass of large cubic crystals up to just over 5 cm on edge and a mixture of lime green and greyish green with purple zoned cores. The crystals are semi-transparent to translucent and show trace phantoms of first-generation octahedral Fluorite. The crystal faces are frosted, a characteristic of this locality, along with mottled creamy spots across their surfaces. A fabulous Irish Fluorite.
