Baryte
An magnificent, lustrous sky blue Baryte forming substantial thickened tabular crystals, all displaying a well-defined chisel habit. From the iron ore mining district around Frizington in west Cumbria, England, individual Baryte crystals measure to a good 5.5 cm, bedded into a creamy pink tan Dolomite with reddish brown to black Hematite supporting both the Baryte and Dolomite. There are also some minor patches of Specular Hematite overgrowing the Hematite matrix. The Baryte is particularly fine, with all crystals approximately 1 cm thick and of a splendid, uniform intensity of deep sky blue. A choice small cabinet specimen worthy of any good collection.
