Description
A classy historic Cornish miniature. Platy to tabular pseudohexagonal gunmetal grey Chalcocite crystals, up to to 1 cm across, and with a fine historic patina lustre form a pure Chalcocite aggregate. The shape and size of these crystals is excellent and although it is provenanced simply as Redruth, it is likely from one of the famous copper (and later tin) mines running from Redruth towards Camborne in the west. Because of the nature of zonation within these deposits, with copper nearer the surface and tin at depth, this is likely to be a very old specimen. Its most recent history lay in Germany, within one of the foremost private collections.
