Chalcocite Variety NAIL HEAD

Unknown Owner
A classic Geevor mine, Levant section specimen of nail head Chalcocite measuring to a height of 1.7 cm and displaying a well-formed cap on a striated prismatic crystal. Many of these unusual Chalcocite's came out of the mine in the very late 1970s to very early 1980s but are very seldom seen either in collections or for sale. The habit is amazing, making the thumbnail specimen really look like a stubby broad headed nail or carpet tack. The Chalcocite is a steely bluish-gunmetal grey with a silky metallic lustre and reticulated texture across the flattened head. A superb thumbnail mounted vertically on a small acrylic base. This specimen is accompanied with two previous labels.
