Tucson, Arizona, USAThis fine tabular Baryte crystal from Silverband mine, Dun Fell, Cumbria is actually a twinned crystal and has great provenance. It was collected underground during the 1960s by Ralph Sutcliffe and remained in his collection (as no. 306) until 1991 when it was purchased by Lindsay Greenbank (no. LG.248). At 8 cm in length it is not the largest crystal to have come out of Silverband mine, but it has lovely sharp edges and shows a wonderful play of colours (like a rainbow) internally, as noted by Lindsay Greenbank. There is some scratching to the rear face, due to the softness of Baryte, but the rest of the crystal is in great shape. It is accompanied by Lindsay Greenbank's collection label and two from Ralph Sutcliffe.
