A great crystallised miniature of Atacamite from the Moonta area in South Australia, situated on the Western Copper Coast region of the Northern Yorke Peninsula; about 130 km NW of Adelaide. Dating from between 1861 and 1923, the surface buildings are wonderful examples of Cornish engine houses, many of which remain in an excellent state of preservation. The Atacamite forms an intergrown radiating cluster of rich, deep emerald green grading to lighter emerald green crystals with excellent lustre. The main crystal measures to 3.7 cm tall, standing at the front of the specimen and helping create an impressive aesthetic impact. A fine and robust Atacamite from Moonta.
