Barite

Unknown Owner

A lovely miniature of well-formed, gemmy to translucent Baryte crystals measuring to 1.5 cm from Pöhla in the Schwarzenberg District of Saxony, Germany. Although labelled simply as Pöhla, it is most likely from the Pöhla-Tellerhäuser mine, formerly worked for uranium. The Baryte forms sharp chisel-like terminations and is a lustrous, golden amber. The crystals sit on a strong yet delicate looking grid of naturally etched, paper-thin Quartz plates forming a reticulated horizontal and vertical array. It is a fine example of near-gem quality Baryte from Pöhla.\n
