Tucson, Arizona, USAThis quite delightful miniature of beautifully crystallised Azurite is a busy and interesting specimen because of the rich matrix of lime green Bayldonite and Malachite forming pseudomorphs after Azurite. This is from the first oxidation zone at Tsumeb mine, a zone which includes from the surface down to at least 11 Level and can even include everything down as far as 15 Level. This first oxidation zone results from ground penetration of meteoritic water through what was a highly permeable karstic depositional environment. The Azurite forms rich deep inky blue crystallized druses amongst the contrasting light and dark greens of the Bayldonite and Malachite pseudomorphs. Although the Bayldonite is chiefly earthy and massive, it does form at least one pseudomorph after probably Mimetite on the display face.
