Fluorite with Siderite

A classic purple cube of Fluorite measuring to 6.1 cm on edge from the famous Boltsburn mine by the village of Rookhope in Weardale. The Fluorite crystal is gemmy to translucent, mainly lilac-purple with hints of characteristic mauve and zones of golden amber. The crystal is covered on three faces by light creamy biscuit coloured drusy Siderite. Several further crystals of Fluorite protrude out from the main crystal. In direct sunlight the crystals exhibit mild daylight fluorescence and under LWUV a magnificent bright lilac-blue fluorescence with bright lilac-white bands around the edges. The Siderite is completely non-fluorescent. A delightful combination of colours and textures make this a most attractive and desirable small cabinet specimen.
