Carrollite, a copper-cobalt-nickel sulphide, occurs at many locations worldwide, but Kambove in the Katanga province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where this specimen from, produces probably the best specimens. This ex-matrix, silvery-bronze crystal is massive for the species and is beautifully terminated, with most faces displaying parallel striated surfaces, two of which form a perfect chevroned pattern. The metallic faces are lustrous and highly reflective, appearing almost pure silver in colour. The base of the specimen, where the crystal was broken-off from its point of attachment, is granular and of a mixed copper-bronze-silver appearance with metallic iridescent patches. An exceptionally fine example of Carrollite.
