Description
The zinc arsenate Adamite forms superb specimens in the Lavrion mining district of the Attica Peninsula in southern Greece, an area where mining dates back to prehistoric times and perhaps most famous for its mines during Classical Greece times, around the 5th and 4th centuries BCE. Excellent hemispherical clusters to 2 cm diameter of glassy, pale apple-mint green Adamite cover a bed of snow-white Calcite on a matrix of pinkish-red-brown Dolomite. The Adamite, has a metallic, silky lustre which contrasts nicely again the matt white Calcite. Under LWUV the Adamite fluoresces bright apple-lime green against a background of deep purple Calcite. Adamite from this wonderful area of Greece is always a pleasure and this miniature is no exception.
