Otavite on Malachite with Cerussite

An old-time specimen dating back to the very early days of mining at Tsumeb, featuring the extremely rare mineral Otavite, first discovered at Tsumeb by Otto Schneider in 1906. Otavite is a cadmium carbonate and is named for the Otavi Mountain Land where Tsumeb is situated. Otavite is only known to come from the outcrop and 1st oxidation zone; however this specimen has all the hallmarks of the former, including an accompanying handwritten label. Botryoidal turquoise-green Malachite with a pale limey-peppermint green outer crust is invested with pearly-white micro-crystals of Otavite and occasional glassy Cerussite. A rare and historic Tsumeb specimen.
