Tucson, Arizona, USAAlthough Azurite is such a frequently seen species from the world famous Tsumeb mine in Namibia, what makes Tsumeb so special is its ability to constantly produce specimens different to all those seen before. In the case of this small miniature Azurite, flattened bladed crystals up to about 1.7 x 1.5 x 0.3 cm intergrow to produce a flower-like cluster of interleaved petals. At its centre is a cluster of micro-crystalised, colourless Cerussite with a bright glassy lustre and form gemmy tabular twins and reticulated branched arrays. The Azurite crystals are probably transparent, but this is impaired by the deep intensity of their inky azure-blue colour which, once back-lit, emits translucent flashes and highlighted edges of electric blue. A very lovely Azurite dusted with Cerussite from Tsumeb.
