Tucson, Arizona, USAAlthough Bornite tends to be considered a very common mineral, well-crystallised specimens from Cornwall are seldom encountered. This very rich specimen is encrusted with well developed Bornite crystals to 6 mm across, of a blackish-very dark Navy blue. From the famous Carn Brea mine at Pool, between Camborne and Redruth in Cornwall, the crystals average about 5 to 6 mm and cover a gossan Quartz matrix. The underside of the specimen has large patches of massive Bornite displaying iridescent peacock blue, purple and red together with a little Chalcopyrite. A very good Cornish Bornite from Carn Brea mine with Dr T.B. Wilson and Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia (No. 941) labels.
