Tucson, Arizona, USAThe Hilton mine has become one of England's most famous localities for Fluorite because of its stunning range of lemon to golden yellow specimens. Galena was originally mined here, followed later by Witherite and Baryte. However, it was not until the late 1970s and the mine by now long abandoned, collectors and mine explorers entered and were soon returning home with the wonderful yellow Fluorite we now most associate with this mine. This is an excellent cabinet specimen taken from a vein section, opposite faces of which are encrusted in golden amber yellow to milky lemon Fluorite crystals. Large crystals only cover one face and these are developed up to about 2.2 x 1.5 x 1.4 cm, mainly as single crystals, but also as interpenetrant twins. The Fluorite is principally translucent and does grade to opaque, especially as it tends towards milky lemon. Under LWUV the Fluorite fluoresces a reasonably bright lavender lilac. A splendid Hilton Fluorite.
