Tucson, Arizona, USAThe Green Monster Mountain locality on Prince of Wales Island in Alaska, USA, has over twenty recorded mineral species, yet it is Epidote which has brought it to the attention of collectors, because of its world-class crystals. This ex-matrix, intergrown cluster is no exception and will make a fine addition to any collection, be this for the quality of species or representation of the locality. A dominant 4 x 3.5 x 2 cm double terminated crystal is interpenetrated by a 3.5 x 3.5 x 1.9 cm single terminated crystal, and on one edge smaller yet excellent Epidote crystals occur, mixed with grey terminated quartz crystals. The Epidote is an opaque, intensely dark bottle-green, although the surface layers are glassy and have a shallow aesthetic translucency. All crystals have a bright glassy lustre except for the terminations of the smaller of the two. These have a matt lustre and displays a forest-leafy green colour. A great Epidote from Green Monster Mountain and ex. the Dr Josef Clemente Collection of southern Germany.
