Description
A quite extraordinary specimen of Quartz from the Dal'negorsk mining region in Primorskiy Kray in the Far-Eastern Region of Russia. I have collected minerals and studied them for over fifty years and have never before seen a specimen like this. The 7.9 cm tall Quartz crystal has simply been labelled as Quartz but is clearly a mixture original Quartz crystals and intermittent sections of Quartz pseudomorphing after Calcite. The Quartz crystal shows normal crystal growth interrupted by thin hexagonal Calcite plates sitting at various strange angles (like unconformities in a stratigraphic succession) that have pseudomorphed to Quartz. Specimens such as this are known from the Bor Pit at Dal'negorsk, although this specimen was originally labelled as simply Dal'negorsk. Mounted vertically on a square acrylic base, this is an amazing and fascinating crystallised Quartz containing splendid Quartz pseudomorphs.
