Baryte
The Pöhla-Tellerhäuser mine was a polymetallic producer whose main ore was uranium, beginning operation in 1947 and finally closing in 1991. The deposit is hosted within a faulted anticline and syncline of late Cambrian-Ordovician age from which over 100 mineral species are recorded. From this fascinating mine we have a beautiful miniature Baryte composed of slightly yellow, creamy translucent crystals with golden honey terminations, the largest measuring 3.5 cm tall. These cover a thin greyish-cream plate of Quartz epimorphs of former cubic Fluorite crystals on its base.\n
