Tucson, Arizona, USAFirst discovered at Tsumeb in 1906 in the outcrop and near surface workings, Otavite is a very rare cadmium carbonate. On this specimen it occurs as white micro-rhombohedral crystals with a pearly lustre in thin crusts around a plate of botryoidal banded Malachite and occasional glassy grey Cerussite crystals. The mineral is named for the Otavi Mountainland in which Tsumeb is located.
