A beautiful, richly coloured miniature specimen of Cinnabar on Dolomite matrix recorded as from Tha Tien in Hunan Province, China. 'Tha Tien' broadly translates as 'Cinnabar field', therefore from the Cinnabar mining district in Fenghuang County which is also called the Chatian ore district. These Chinese Cinnabar specimens have become classics, representing some of the best-of-species crystals. This excellent example displays well-formed, lustrous, deep red to maroon-red crystals of Cinnabar to 1 cm in size sat upon contrasting creamy-white crystals of Dolomite. The Cinnabar presents a brilliant, silver metallic, mirror-like lustre.
