Lazurite
Unknown Owner
For all of the tonnes of cutting grade massive mottled blue and white Lapis Lazuli that is produced from the classic Sar-e-Sang area in Afghanistan there are very few well crystallized specimens of the blue mineral Lazurite, that gives Lapis Lazuli its prominent colour. Occasionally, there will be some good individual crystals, but specimens like this cabinet-sized display piece, liberally covered in well-formed blue Lazurite crystals reaching up to 2 cm in size are so rarely seen, and especially so in this quality. These very rich vivid blue well-formed crystals are intergrown over a matrix of tabular white 'Diopside' and light brown Phlogopite. A stunning Lazurite specimen from the classic 'Persian' occurrence.
