Chalcocite
A splendid, solid crystallised block of lustrous dark grey Chalcocite from the mining district around the town of Redruth in Cornwall. Originally named Redruthite, it was renamed as Chalcocite in 1868. The upper surfaces are completely covered with small, 1 to 3 mm crystals, but occasionally reach 5 mm across and form a mosaic-like coverage. Part of an old hand written label remains glued to one side of this most attractive specimen.
