Coronel Murta in Jequitinhonha Valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil is renowned for its superb raspberry red Elbaite tourmaline crystals. This cabinet-sized display specimen is both dramatic and colourful. Four interlocking raspberry-red Elbaite crystals are sat on a very small piece of Lepidolite matrix. The main Elbaite crystal stands vertically at nearly 9 cm in length and progresses from a darker base upwards through a beautiful glassy raspberry pink into a thin, paler to colourless zone, capped by a prominent red layer at its termination, which is a flat, glassy pinacoid face. The three other Elbaite crystals display similar excellent colour, and gemmy quality, but all show slight areas of damage. Nevertheless the aesthetics are superb and under intense illumination this specimen glows with colour. A really desirable, eye catching high end display quality Brazilian Tourmaline. As with many of these red Elbaites repairs have been professionally made, but are almost undetectable.
