Tucson, Arizona, USAIt is apparent that Dr Josef Clemente had a great fondness for the magnificently crystallised Epidote from the wonderfully named Green Monster Mountain on Prince of Wales Island in Alaska, USA, and who can blame him? Although the crystals are essentially the same intensely deep bottle-green colour, their habit and aspect ratios do differ markedly, providing a wide diversity in morphology and overall aesthetic. This beautiful large miniature features a roughly 4.0 x 1.8 x 1.2 cm terminated Epidote crystal protruding at 30 degrees from a matrix of massive Epidote and surrounded by smaller but similar crystals, also sat at this acute angle. The Epidote is intensely dark bottle-green and opaque with a brilliant reflective glassy lustre and occasional patches of translucent chrome and leaf-green. Also adding to this remarkable specimen are several transparent colourless Quartz crystals, the largest of which is 2.4 cm tall and nicely terminated.
