When one thinks of Barra de Salinas near the town of Coronel Murta in northeastern Minas Gerais, Brazil one usually thinks of gem tourmalines, but there are interesting Beryl's too. This 5 cm tall, single crystal of Beryl, var. Aquamarine, is frosted with internal inclusions throughout much of its length, but the uppermost 20% is gem clear with a wonderful complexity to its termination, with the addition of three sloping faces on one side. There are a few minor abrasions visible around the edges of the termination and down the sides of the prism, but this is a nicely balanced Aquamarine crystal.

Editor's note

Good classic aquamarine shape from Brazil - the largest producer of aquamarine. The crystal has clean glossy faces, is gemmy at the top and the small amount of damage is acceptable for a specimen at this price and size.
