Tucson, Arizona, USAThis terrific small miniature/large thumbnail Chalcocite is from Cook's Kitchen mine at Pool, roughly mid-way between the towns of Camborne and Redruth in Cornwall. Cook's Kitchen is an old mine that dates to around 1744 and was a rich producer of tin, copper and arsenic. During the twentieth century it became incorporated within the South Crofty mine complex. This lovely specimen is an intergrown porous structure of acicular blades of black Chalcocite with a bright metallic lustre and no matrix. Although the crystals form a jumbled array, individual crystals can be seen to about 5 or 6 mm long.
