Cerussite
An extremely rare location specimen of well crystallised Cerussite on massive Galena from Wheal Rose at Porthleven, Mount's Bay District, Cornwall. The Cerussite crystals are colourless and transparent to greyish-translucent and vary in habit from single roman-sword, to semi-reticulated and equant dodecahedral crystals. These sit on a thin deep chocolate-brown limonitic layer which covers the edges of a block of massive, bright silver Galena. Galena from this and the surrounding mines is argentiferous, with a silver content of around 60 ounces to the ton. This specimen comes with four previous labels, one of which is an R.W. Barstow Collection white label. White labels indicate the specimen was in his collection, as opposed to his Green stock labels.
