An outstanding cluster of gemmy translucent Demantoid crystals, the green variety of Andradite Garnet, on a light cream porous carbonate matrix. This large miniature specimen is from an intertidal mangrove swamp at Antetezambato in Antsiranana Province in far northwest Madagascar. The individual crystals measure up to 1.5 cm, and are a translucent light chrome green, displaying the dodecahedron combined with trapezohedron faces. Six individual Demantoid crystals form an interlinked cluster and all are of different sizes and slightly differing habits. The deposit was worked for only one year over the period 2008 to 2009, presumably the supply quickly running out. A beautiful Demantoid variety of Andradite from this most unusual locality in Madagascar.
