Diana vein in Allenheads mine in Northumberland is a renowned Fluorite occurrence in the North Pennines Orefield known for very glassy, highly reflective crystals. Most of the specimens from Diana vein are said to have been collected from flats alongside Diana vein during the 1970s when British Steel was operating the mine. This very large display specimen is covered in bright glassy pale lavender coloured twinned Fluorite crystals with minor associated black Sphalerite crystals so typical of this occurrence and minor Dolomite as small cream coloured rosettes. The Fluorite crystals exceptionally reach 2.1 cm on edge, but most occur in two size ranges - prominent, slightly more intensely coloured twinned crystals in the range 7- 15 mm; and sub 5 mm crystals making up the groundmass. Similar to specimens from Frazer's Hush mine, this Fluorite exhibits strong daylight fluorescence with a noticeable shift from lavender under artificial light to violet under daylight. There is some damage to the larger twinned Fluorite crystal but most of the other crystals are razor sharp and in fine condition. Ex Bill Creighton specimen. Many collectors will remember Bill's museum and shop in Cockermouth on the northern edge of the English Lake District. Most specimens from this occurrence are sub-10cm in size, making this a remarkable museum quality specimen. Due to its size and weight (over 2 kg) additional postage charges may apply.
