The Illinois Fluorspar District is known for just that... fluorite. However, rarely, we get good galena specimens and ever more rare yet are a few combination pieces with fluorite and galena. This miniature is special because it has sharp galena crystals sitting on a fluorite, which is not only aesthetic but seems a bit reversed from the more common order of deposition and what we have seen overall. It is simply exquisite and refined... small, but choice. It carries a label from the Ross Lillie collection (the single most important Illinois suite ever put together).
