From the type locality comes this large, museum size, pegmatite specimen of the exceedingly rare calcium-beryllium-yttrium silicate Minasgeraisite-(Y). It is also associated with another rare and unusual mineral, Chernovite-(Y) which is a yttrium arsenate. Minasgeraisite-(Y) is recognizable as tiny, sub-1 mm, lavender crystals sprinkled over select areas of the surface along with microcrystals of Chernovite-(Y) on a matrix consisting of Microcline, Muscovite and minor amounts of Milarite. The Milarite is more recognizable as green-yellow, satin to silky lustered crystals with a trio of crystals right in the center of the piece then an outlier on the upper left. Since its discovery in Brazil, Minasgeraisite-(Y) has only been found at three other validated occurrences in the world and only in trace amounts. This is said to be the richest example, and we have not seen better for sale to say otherwise. The piece is literally the world supply of this rare species! It was obtained in the purchase of part of the Matioli collection in Brazil.
