A unique piece from the Obodda collection which we handled in 2008: this is a shockingly geometric, transparent, octahedral crystal of Fluorite. Sharp fluorite crystals from pegmatites are very rare and this is one very profound example from the Gilgit area of Pakistan! It is an exceedingly sharp, completely transparent and colorless Fluorite octahedron measuring a full two inches across its longest edge! Numerous trapped fluid inclusions are very apparent within the crystal ranging in size from less than a millimeter up to 1.5 cm, looking like ice clouds within. This crystal is so clear that the white Albite crystals upon which the Fluorite is attached are easily visible through the crystal to the bottom, through 2 inches of crystal, as are some needle-like elongated dark tourmaline crystals! This is an exceptional Fluorite from a pegmatite or any other kind of deposit worldwide. It might even be unique for the sharpness and sheer lack of color, for this location. This stunner has a mass of 135 grams. Ex. Herb Obodda collection # 2198, long in his collection after he carried it out of Pakistan on one of his 100-plus trips there as he helped open the Pakistani mineral market to the world from 1969 forward.
