A rare item from the mid-1800s, this choice Siderite has sharp, brown octahedra that are actually quite translucent to gemmy, and glow a beautiful golden color when backlit. These Siderite octahedra average about 7 mm on edge, and they richly cover the drusy Quartz matrix. In great demand even at the time they came out (when they were priced higher than their weight in gold!), this is a fine, old-time combination piece from the historic Tincroft Mine of Cornwall. Formally in the University of Arizona Collection, traded out for Kay by Scott Williams in 1963 per her label. These old Cornish siderites have a special place in collectors' hearts, and are so seldom seen for sale. Featured in the book Collecting Classics: The Legacy of Kay Robertson (Mineralogical Record, May 2025) on page 61.
