Thaumasite
The Schauss collection was noted for the broad variety of top or near top examples of many species in one place, and rare species of this kind of aesthetic quality kept winning him competitive exhibits and awards. This is a transparent lustrous yellowish single hexagonal crystal of this extremely rare gem species. From: Cal Graeber (Fallbrook, California), February 11, 1989, and originally from the legendary South African dealer Sid Pieters. Many old labels identified this as “Black Rock mine” on the labels but that was to hide the location and they were in fact from N'Chwaning I. This pocket and this specimen was collected in 1987. Exhibited: One of the 35 displayed specimens that won the 2010 Paul Desautel Trophy for Best Mineral Case in Competition at the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show.
