Polybasite in the textbook crystal habit shown here is 100-plus years old and almost never seen for sale in specimens. This is an old classic, and also an aesthetic miniature. An unusual, elongated, lustrous black acanthite crystal, measuring 3.4 cm in length, is studded by tabular, lustrous black crystals of polybasite, to 1.2 cm across. Ex. Herb Obodda collection. A truly remarkable specimen from this famous mine, and from one of the most famous German silver species suites yet assembled.
