Intense, violet-blue color highlight these unusual radial sprays of bladed Azurite crystals from Christiana Mine, which is part of the ancient and classic Lavrion Mining District in Greece. Most often in dense clusters, these crystals are arranged in radial patterns creating remarkable starbursts up to 1.8 cm across. There is even a hint of translucence along the termination edges when backlit. This aesthetic, cabinet-sized specimen was collected in 2017 and is said to be one of the larger examples of this particular style. I find it intriguing that such quality is still being found at this famous old mining district after centuries of mining!
