Shaft 371 is known for its specimens of the rare calcium oxalate mineral whewellite. Here we have a unique 3.7 x 3.0 x 1.5 cm specimen. The top part of the crystal is lustrous whewellite showing grey tones due to inclusions of the iron arsenide löllingite. This specimen is interesting because it shows a sharp transition halfway through the crystal. The bottom half is milky white and tests at the University of Texas in Austin suggest that it's the rare oxalate mineral weddelite, making this a truly exceptional find. Crystals such as this were found in early 1970s. A gorgeous display miniature. Featured in The Mineralogical Record, May-June 2025 supplement, "COLLECTING CLASSICS: The Legacy of Kay Robertson."
