Fluorite (classic old USA locale)
Wise Mine green fluorite provided fluorspar for early American industry, as well as for collectors who loved beautiful green fluorite. However, most material mined here (and it was tonnage!) was massive, broken, rough. True specimens were always rare. This particular crystal is one found and dug out in a rare open pocket by mine owner Bob Borofsky. They currently mine this location for rough (for faceting, and selling as a green gemstone!). Fine crystals are the lucky, but rare, byproduct. It is simply not economical to mine for specimens only. I bought most of Bob's collection back around 2010 or so, and got this at the time. It is a sharp, undamaged, very fine single octahedral crystal, and should be treasured for the quality in this size range. The examples from older collections back to the early 1900s are often rough, damaged, and ugly in comparison. This is therefore a significant USA piece!
