Naica is one of the greatest localities in Mexico, mostly known for the fabulous Fluorite specimens; however, don’t forget the sulfides! This large, stately Chalcopyrite specimen is a prime example. The tiny sparkly quartz crystals accent the robust bronze crystals, distinguishing the piece from its more monotonous brethren. Attractive growth faces minimize the tiny dings and chatter on the edges of the plate. This specimen comes from the Dr. Miguel Romero Collection (https://mineralogicalrecord.com/labels.asp?colid=792), the major Mexican collection of modern history, which we had the good fortune to purchase in 2008. We also worked with the Mineralogical Record to produce a book about his collection, available digitally at https://www.irocks.com/e-book-romero.
