Just a lovely and sparkly, almost totally gem, polychrome Elbaite Tourmaline crystal from older and limited production in the Coronel Murta area of Brazil, circa 1990s. It has a glassy luster and great color with a variegated light cranberry to olive-green through much of its length and a deep red-purple cap, within and including, the last centimeter at its top where is displays a near-perfect, complex, pyramidal termination. The sparkle at the interior is a result of numerous, small (2 to 4 mm), near-horizontal inclusions that just make this lovely crystal glisten. So this crystal is even more remarkable when you hold it in front of your computer screen as it looks as described in the vertical orientation, then becomes an intense magenta through almost its entire length when rotated 90 degrees! This pleochroism is spectacular! From an old tourmaline collection we obtained.
