Closely resembling a flying wing or a "lobster-tail" as the Chinese miners called them at the time, this fine rhodochrosite specimen is composed of stacked and parallel rhombohedrons, to 2.3 cm across. There is good luster and translucence and the color is a rich rose red. It literally glows when backlit! The specimen is also emplaced on a bit of fluorite, attached to the back, and is otherwise a floater - complete all around with no point of attachment. Showy and dramatic! This dates from 2010 or so, and no more this quality have been found since. it is, for the size range, and without repair and restoration, hard to surpass for a Chinese rhodochrosite. These are modern classics, and hard to obtain today.
